The HEALTH AND WELLBEING FOR HISTORICALLY UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES

The Impact of COVID-19 on Students, Staff, Administrators and Faculty who Identify as Black, Indigenous or Person(s) of Color

COVID-19 has magnified the reality that Black, Indigenous, and other People(s) of Color (BIPOC), especially those who face economic and social challenges, have been the hardest hit during this crisis. According to Dr. David Acosta, the chief diversity and inclusion officer of the Association of American Medical Colleges, “communities that are marginalized, that are under-resourced or underserved, will always suffer more during a crisis like this” (Weiner, 2020). This harsh societal reality coupled with the current healthcare crisis creates a unique set of challenges for BIPOC who are navigating life on college campuses. Therefore, the goal of this project is to explore the challenges that the Covid-19 pandemic presents to students, staff, administrators and faculty who identify as BIPOC.
